Ammonia cooling units
Ammonia cooling units are more familar as coolers used for camping or in apartments. Among their advantages are a long service life, noiseless operation and the ability to run using a variety of power sources – for example, with 230 V AC voltage, 12 V DC voltage from a vehicle’s electrical system or even with propane.
While the compressors used to condense the refrigerant in conventional cooling units are clearly audible, the functionality of ammonia cooling units is based on absorption.
Because ammonia is poisonous, the cooling circuit must be hermetically sealed. When disposing of these cooling units, it is important to treat the cooling circuit first and then to dispose of the refrigerant completely. To do so, the cooling circuit is rinsed with compressed air – a proven technology that Herco produces under licence by the Dometic Group.
